Artist’s Statement

Ah, the light, refreshing thrill of dipping in a crystal clear pool on a hot summer day! That is the sense this sculpture was created to capture. Through the use of color and space, the piece gives a cool, light, refreshing feeling. This piece will add a refreshing splash to any living space.

A Dip in the Pool is one of my first sculptures to use MDF and acrylic in a “cubonic” (cube-based) format. More specifically, I constructed open-ended cubes out of MDF (a hybrid wood product) and painted then in a specific color-matched scheme. These colors are complimentary and play off each other very well. I set the cubes in a very light frame (pine painted white) to enhance the open and airy feel of the piece. I am very pleased with the outcome, and I hope you are, too.
