Artist’s
Statement
The cross-work
of Christ is the singular event which binds the universe together
and redeems God’s creation to Himself. It is the central
declaration of Christianity which is to echo through every
endeavor under the sun, whether music, science, mathematics,
athletics…everything. It is fitting, then, that the
cross in its radical simplicity towers as the dominant design
element in this sculpture
The atomic trails which circle the intersection of the cross’s
beams point to the scientific endeavor. The Christian scientist,
in whatever field of study, finds himself seeing all things
not only through the instrument in his hand, but also through
the lens of the cross which stands for the lordship and redemptive
activity of Christ. In short, the believing scientist’s
work revolves around Christ just as the molecules in this
sculpture revolve around the cross.
