Artist’s Statement

Using “unrivaled medical standards and expertise to deliver an otherwise unattainable level of beauty” – this is what Aeterna™ Medical Spas are all about. It was with this in mind that I have entered my sculpture studio. From concept to finished form, I wanted to embody these values in an aesthetically pleasing way. This endeavor has birthed the custom-made sculpture Transformation II.

The three individual solid walnut lattices of this sculpture speaks of the “standards and expertise” that set Aeterna™ apart and above other providers of such services. Their medical expertise, highly trained staff, and leading edge technology form the grid work upon which they operate. In the same way, the beauty and structure of each walnut grid forms the framework for this sculpture. The grain and depth of color of the wood speak to the personal touch of the experts that work at Aeterna™.
Set within the three walnut lattices are a variety of precious wood ingots. These ingots represent you, the client. Each one is unique. Even though some ingots are the same wood variety, the grain, color, and shape of ingots within that one variety are still unique. The ingot’s uniqueness speaks to Aeterna’s™ individualized approach with their clients. There is no one-size-fits-all approach here! It is as you can see embodied in this sculpture – Aeterna™ staff ensure that you comfortably custom-fit into their “framework” of medical spa excellence.

If you stand back from these sculptures, you will notice a general transformation going on in the ingots as your eye scans from the left to the right. In Transformation II, this change takes place on a broad scale over the entire piece and within each individual lattice. As your eye moves from the left to the right of the piece (overall and individually), you’ll notice that the colors of the ingots transform from darker to lighter, and their grains transform from thicker to thinner. For example, the ebony wood in the far left of the piece is very dark and heavily grained. The zebra wood ingots toward the middle of the sculpture are lighter colored and grained than the ebony. And the maple pieces on the right side are very lightly colored and thinly grained.

The transformation taking place in the ingots across this sculpture speak to the transformation in health, beauty, and confidence that Aeterna™ clients experience as they progress in treatment. At any stage the pieces (and you) are equally precious! Yet, they are transforming into that which is more and more radiant. The woods used in this sculpture include, from darker to lighter: Ebony, Bocote, Zebrawood, Kiatt, Canary Wood, Cherry, and Maple.

As with Aeterna’s™ standard of professionalism and expertise, there is likewise nothing artificial about these sculptures. No stains have been used. The woodwork is simple and beautiful – just like you. May you enjoy the transformation you see in yourself as you visit Aeterna™, and may you enjoy this sculpture as a reminder of that transformation.
