Artist’s
Statement
There
is a moment in every beach-bound surfer’s day when he
or she first comes into sight of the surf. It can be a moment
of exhilaration if the waves are up, or it can be utterly
deflating if the surf is flat. Checking the Swells
is an ode to this moment of truth. Here we have an expectant
rider just coming within sight of the waves. Is it “surf’s
up!” a “close out” or “mushy”?
I’ll leave that to your imagination – or to your
best surfing daydream.
