Green
Tea with Cream
This
piece really caught my eye when I saw it hanging in
the gallery. I was looking for a piece to fill a space
on a curved wall in my loft and this tryptic fit the
bill perfectly. I tend to like "organized abstraction",
which is how I would describe this work. That fact,
along with the green and cream colors, made it a great
addition to my collection. I especially like the way
light casts shadows created by the wooden lines of the
piece. And an added bonus was having Doug come over
to help choose the best location for the work and to
actually hang it!

Humility
is Hallelujah
I picked up the piece on Saturday and was SO excited.
The piece is beautiful. Thank you again for your beautiful
artwork and for the beautiful price to go with it! We
will cherish the piece for years to come. I look forward
to filling our house with more of your pieces in the future.

The
Hiding Place
“The Hiding Place” arrived yesterday afternoon.
It is amazing! For nearly two years, the photo of it moved
me. To have it now in my own home is almost beyond belief.
I know that your heart is connected to the heart of Jesus,
and your hands speak His message. Thank you for the words
you wrote, and the sculpture that interpreted them.

St.
John's Lutheran Church - Pipe Organ Pipe Cross Sculpture
God intentionally brings people together for blessings
and relationships to further His Kingdom. That truth
is evident in a series of events that we at St. John
like to call a God thing. A lifelong member of our congregation
happened to be given old organ pipes from a previous
sanctuary.
My
dream was for some kind of music-themed artwork for
our rehearsal space. God gave us the gift of artist
Doug Merkey to create this unexpected masterpiece. Everything
fell into place in God's time by God's hand so that
today a brilliant cross sculpted of organ pipes hangs
in our rehearsal room.
Doug's heart and love for the Lord shine through his
creation, and hundreds of people in our music ministry
are inspired by this creative vision of Christ's sacrifice
on our behalf. We are giving thanks to the Lord for
Doug's gifts and ministry.

During
life's journey, there are some people whom you meet that
give you
great encouragement and leave their imprint on you. Working
with Doug has
been like that for me. Let me explain. I met Doug at an
art fair in the
spring of 2005 when I purchased his sculpture "Recklessly
Abandoned
Worship." As I gazed at the sculpture and read the
artist's statement
regarding the piece, it deeply touched my soul. I have
been at the place he
described - extreme vulnerability, extreme pursuit from
enemies, extreme
thankfulness for all God has done and is doing for me.
As we spoke, I could
tell that Doug has a deep, peaceful, love relationship
with God. This
piece, as it sits on my family room coffee table, has
been a great on-going
blessing for my family and for many of our friends.
Over the last few months, Doug has become an incredible
blessing to Christ
in the City (Church). He has designed a beautiful, inspiring
cross out of
our old organ pipes. His creativity, professionalism,
flexibility, and deep
pastoral heart have been continually evident. I pray that
God keeps our
paths crossing. Doug, a man after God's own heart, is
a rare but precious
friend.

I
was looking for an artist who could create a sculpture
that would work in
a commercial environment, but would portray a feeling
of warmth, and become
an integral part of the setting. Doug achieved all of
that and was so easy
to work with. He was up for the challenge and approached
the request with
great enthusiasm. We loved his work so much, and as
a result, Aeterna™ has
ordered several more of his pieces.

Doug
Merkey has a passion for the life of the unborn. With
that in mind, Pregnancy Resource Centers of Greater
St. Louis commissioned Doug to design and create a sculpture
that captured the joy of life. The end result was a
beautiful work of art that shows the exuberant face
of an elder man holding a new born child. The sculpture
was inspired by the biblical story of Simeon being introduced
to the baby Jesus. Doug brought the words of scripture
to life with the details of the sculpture and facial
expression of Simeon.

A
picture is worth a thousand words, but a work of art
is worth more than words can express. Daily at my workplace
I enjoy two sculptures by Doug Merkey. I never tire
of them, for they are like good friends, always well
met. They convey multiple messages that can either accompany
my moods in a reassuring way, or remind me of more permanent
and important things that uplift the soul. Doug breathes
passion into his work in a way that conveys authenticity.
There is nothing rote or routine about this artist or
his art.

On
several occasions we have contracted with Doug to produce
a scuplture that captures a theme or issue that we are
attempting to communicate with our congregation. His
work is always well done as a physcial art form. But
what makes it excellent is the tie of the work to the
idea that it is supposed to represent. He is a master
of his craft and I would recommend his work to anyone.
